A great installation! Walking through the streets of St. Moritz in the walk of art, I was struck by this installation, for its peculiarity. In fact, at first glance could pass unnoticed, as being located in the middle of a busy street of St. moritz, looked a lot more like a typical bus stop, normally destroyed by vandals, of any European city. The thing that seemed jarring, however, it was destroyed in the middle of a perfect city as St.moritz can only be, a place where I admired the precision and care with trying to preserve the pristine beauty of this beautiful valley. So I could not resist the temptation to live this installation, and so I took a few frames, trying to feel the creative spirit.
From the st.moritz web site: “”What has been begun may be fulfilled. May they believe in it and have a laugh at their passions. For what they call passion is, in truth, not some emotional energy but just the friction between the soul and the outside world,” proclaims the main character in Andrei Tarkowski’s 1979 film ”Stalker“. Lori Hersberger may have envisaged a society set in an indefinite future and characterized by repressive control when he conceived his installation ”Dystopia Stalker No. 2“. yet, the artist does not want to elicit an unequivocal reading with the title he chose but rather aims at triggering a cascade of associations on the part of the viewer – an objective already evident in former comparable works such as ”Optimize your Feng-Shui“ (2008), ”Geist“ (2009), or ”Dystopia Stalker“ (2013). With a painter’s vital gesture, Hersberger decided on a screenlike arrangement of the bulletproof glass walls, which may arouse our suppressed latent fascination with the beauty of destruction. The installation’s accessibility turns the viewer into an integral part of the overall tableau, which continuously oscillates between inside and outside, inclusion and exclusion. New things may come about where destruction reigns.

Una grande istallazione! Camminando tra le vie di St.Moritz nella walk of art, sono stata colpita da questa installazione, per la sua particolarità. In realtà, a prima vista poteva passare inosservata, poichè essendo posizionata al centro di una via trafficata di St. moritz, assomigliava molto di più a una tipica fermata dell’autobus, normalmente distrutta dai vandali, di una qualsiasi città europea. La cosa che appariva stridente, però, era proprio la distruzione al centro di una città perfetta come solo St.moritz può essere, un luogo dove ho ammirato la precisione e la cura con si cerca di conservare la bellezza incontaminata di questa splendida valle. Così non ho potuto resistere alla tentazione di vivere questa installazione, e ho scattato alcuni fotogrammi, cercando di sentirne lo spirito creativo.
Dal sito ufficiale di St.Moritz Art masters: Che si avverino i loro desideri, che possano crederci, e che possano ridere delle loro passioni. Infatti ciò che chiamiamo passione in realtà non è energia spirituale, ma solo attrito tra l’animo e il mondo esterno“ viene annunciato nel film „Stalker“ di Andrei Tarkowski nel 1979. Lori Hersberger, nella sua installazione „Dystopia Stalker No. 2“, potrebbe avere pensato a una società futura caratterizzata da un controllo repressivo. L’artista però non vuole evocare una lettura univoca attraverso il titolo, ma anzi provocare una cascata di associazioni nell’osservatore, cosa cui già miravano lavori precedenti come „Optimize your Feng-Shui” (2008), „Geist” (2009), o „Dystopia Stalker” (2013). La disposizione a paravento delle pareti in vetro blindato è stata infranta da Hersberger con gesto vitale di pittore, riuscendo a svegliare la nostra soppressa, latente fascinazione per la distruzione. L’agibilità dell’installazione rende l’osservatore parte del quadro completo, in un continuo gioco di alternanza tra interno ed esterno, inclusione ed esclusione. Dove c’è distruzione, si crea anche del nuovo.
